The busiest season for movers is always the summer. June through August are packed with families and students trying to move during the break, so expect increased prices and limited availability on certain dates. Be warned: We’ve seen things heating up during May and September, also.

How can I save money when I move?

The best way to save money on your move is to downsize before you shop for quotes. Organize a garage sale, donate old and unused items, or just plain hand-it-down to your friends and family. The less you have to move, the less you have to pay.

Aside from downsizing, it’s a good idea to schedule smart. Avoid peak moving season (May/June through August/September), and try to avoid the first and last days of each month, too (that’s when leases run out). Try to organize a mid-week, mid-month move, far away from major holidays.

Is there anything my movers can’t transport?

Every moving company has their no-go lists, but in general they all avoid transporting stuff that’ll damage their trucks. Nothing flammable, pressurized, or perishable – not even nail polish or plants.
